Ground Source Heat Pumps: The Future Path to Sustainable Energy
Geothermal energy is a renewable resource and a new type of clean energy. With people’s increasing awareness of environmental protection and the increasing scarcity of energy, the rational development and utilization of geothermal resources are increasingly favored.
From a national perspective of various policies, the main direction of geothermal energy development in China is geothermal energy heating. Moreover, geothermal resources in China are primarily characterized by medium to low temperatures, which is more suitable for heating development. In addition, there is a demand for clean heating in the north, while there is a demand for heating and cooling in the south due to cold winters and hot summers.
As a clean heating equipment, ground source heat pumps are exceedingly efficient. With good insulation, the actual heating efficiency can reach over 400%, and they don’t produce carbon dioxide during use. In the face of increasing heating demand, ground source heat pumps are one of the methods to solve this dilemma.
The ground source heat pump is based on technology of air source heat pump, using a small amount of electricity to transfer the heat in the air from the low-temperature zone to the high-temperature zone through the air compressor. At the same time, it releases the heat energy obtained to heat the cold water when entering the heat exchanger. After heating the cold water, it enters the heat circulation system for household heating. It is a household electrical appliance with low electricity consumption, energy-saving and environmental protection, in line with the national carbon neutrality strategy. The use of ground source heat pumps for heating helps reduce pollution emissions and improve the heating efficiency.
In the context of energy conservation and the carbon reduction, the ground source heat pump can effectively reduce carbon emissions in the heating field, contributing to China's energy transformation and the achievement of overall goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
